Surface Water Runoff Courses / SUR 1 Workshops: Code for Sustainable Homes
Developments not designed to latest Code requirements can struggle to meet mandatory criteria and all projects with drainage designed without reference to the code need to be checked and advice sought if compliance is in doubt.
It is therefore critical that assessors, housing associations, architects, engineers, consultants, contractors and all those in local authorities involved with planning and building regulations are up to date with the latest compliance criteria. We are aware that currently many clients are exposing themselves to unnecessary risk in this area and contractors are often not including the necessary costs in their tenders.
NEW Surface Water Runoff Course - Sur 1 Workshop
Covers the Technical guidance notes issued in December 2009 and the potential future changes presented in the Code Consultation.
Our workshop format has proven very popular with clients, being based on real case studies submitted in advance or brought along by the participants. All can then benefit from the wider discussion which these real scenarios provoke. We supplement these with our own examples where necessary to cover all major aspects of compliance. These workshops are tailored to the audience and highly participative, which ensures that in most cases you will leave with a clear idea of how to interpret the criteria for current schemes you are working on.
The content is guided by the needs of the participants, but will typically include the following:
- Context - The Code
- Sur 1: Management of Surface Water Runoff
- Performance criteria
- Satisfying the mandatory requirements
- Gaining credits
- Evidence requirements
- ‘Special Cases’
- Technical Guidance note TGN 001

Who should attend the surface water runoff workshop?
Anyone who needs to understand compliance with the Code category 4 SWRO will find this useful - drainage engineers, housing associations, code assessors, contractors, engineers, planners developers, suppliers of Rainwater harvesting -SUDS and drainage products, and others with roles relating to SWRO and the Code.
The open Sur 1 / SWRO workshops (half day) are held in a central location and are ideal for one delegate or a small number of delegates from an organisation - there is great value in the interactive sessions and participants learn from the whole range of questions and examples presented.
Open Sur 1 Workshops cost £110 + VAT per delegate and include analysis of a selection of case studies from delegates in advance. Discounts are available when booking more than one place.
To register your interest please click here and fill in your details. (This will not take you to our online payment system, it is purely to register. Once we receive this we will contact you and then only invoice you once you have confirmed you would like to attend)
An in-house Sur 1 course / workshop might be more suitable if you have more than say 8 delegates or if you would like to dedicate the workshop to assessing live projects you are working on.
It can also be very effective to arrange an in-house course and invite associates, members of a project team, sub-contractors and others. This can help to give a broader understanding of issues and potentially spread the cost.
In-house surface water runoff workshop costs are quoted following a discussion of your needs.
